Landmark Christian’s volleyball team entered Saturday’s Class A title match against Walker at Marietta High School as much a veteran lineup led by three seniors and four juniors.
But it was sophomore softball standout Abby Johns that capped off the program’s third state championship since 2002 from the serving line.
Johns served out a 27-25 final game to cap off a 3-1 victory over the hometown Lady Wolverines that capped off an impressive 41-14 season for the Lady War Eagles that was capped off by 15 consecutive victories, none of which went longer than four games.
Team captain Tiffany Creamer, a 6-2 senior, was dominating on the front line while finishing with a team-high 25 kills in the victory. Junior Lilly Kessler added 14 in one of her best offensive performances of the year.
Landmark’s defense was led by Kessler and freshman libero Jenny Luckie, who finished with a team leading 23 digs. Kessler added 22 and Creamer finished with 18 in the championship match.

Senior middle hitter Kiersten Cusumano led the Lady War Eagles with four blocks while joining fellow senior Mary-Michael McCathren up front in the final matches of respective varsity careers.

Setter Ellen Anderson finished with 43 assists among a junior class of four players looking to carry the torch next year for Landmark, which went 5-0 against Coweta volleyball lineups this fall.

The Lady War Eagles’ only pair of losses after Sept. 22 both came against Whitewater, which played Fayette rivals McIntosh in Saturday’s late Class AAAAA championship match held at McEachern.
