CARROLLTON — With the Region 4-AAAAA cross country championships right around the corner, the Northgate Vikings turned in a solid effort at the Last Chance Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The event is run on the same course as the state championship.
“There’s a lot of tradition at this meet," Northgate cross county coach Chris Kimes said. “It’s a good chance to run on the state course and Carrollton does a nice job with the meet.”
Northgate finished fifth in the Class AAAAA girls meet, while the boys finished eighth.
Kimes sat most of his top runners in both the girls and boys meet in order to rest them for next week’s region.
The Northgate girls were paced by Caitlin Bellora (22:59.61) with a 17th-place performance. Bellora was only runner to medal for Northgate.
Amanda Lee (25:00.01) and Abby Coe (25:07.00) were 37th and 38th, respectively. Kia Kirk (26:39.28) was 48th, while Abby Pinaud (26.40.61) was 49th. Madeline McDonald (27:32.04) was 55th for the Lady Vikings.

In the boys half of the competition, Kaleb Rainey (19:39.10) had the best finish for the Vikings with a 25th-place finish.

The Vikings’ Andrew Lail (20:24.81) was 37th, Northgate’s Griffiths Harrison (21:16.57) was 66th, Parker Smith (23:19.82), and Chad Green 81st (23:41.90).

The top two team spots in both the boys and girls events went to teams from Region 4-AAAAA. Whitewater won the girls meet with 24 points, while McIntosh had 34 points.

Whitewater’s Mackenzie Nail turned in the top time in the girls event running it in a time of 20:18.

The first three finishers in the boys race were from McIntosh with Brad Hort (16:14.04) winning the event.
