J.D. Farlow went over the 1,200-yard rushing mark for the season and added three touchdowns to a previous total of 15 as Heritage Christian cruised over cross-region rival Ballard Christian of Auburn 34-16 on the road Friday.
It was the Crusaders’ sixth consecutive victory while remaining undefeated against opponents from the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama. The team now awaits its biggest game of the season next Friday when Heritage Christian (6-1) hosts Praise Academy for the ICSGA 8-man North Division title in a game between a pair of 4-0 teams in region play.
The Crusaders have already clinched a return trip to the ICSGA state playoffs starting on Nov. 2.
Behind a 203-yard rushing effort from Farlow while taking advantage of his blocking up front on the Crusaders offensive line, the Crusaders built a comfortable 14-0 halftime lead and didn’t allow Ballard to reach the end zone until the closing minute of the third quarter.
“The defense played awesome tonight,” said Heritage Christian coach Joey Farlow of an effort that included forcing three Ballard turnovers including interceptions by freshman Jared Farlow and senior Austin Reeves. Junior Jeremiah Winkles, who entered Friday with five sacks, helped lead the Crusaders defensive line with Jesse Parkerson, Tyler Smith and Jerald Dewveall.

Reeves added 169 yards rushing and a touchdown in the victory. The senior now has gained 685 yards and scored 13 touchdowns for the season.

J.D. Farlow, who had both of Heritage Christian’s touchdowns in the first half, now has 1,358 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns over the first seven games of the 2012 season.

It was the Crusaders second consecutive win over Ballard in the annual rivalry between football programs.
