Prep Football: Heritage Christian runs past Holy Ground

Even with their senior quarterback relegated to the sidelines for the rest of the season, Heritage Christian continued to rack up points to continue an undefeated run in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama’s 8-man football league this year.
Freshman Jared Farlow threw a touchdown pass to open Friday’s game and older brother J.D. carried the offensive load from there in a 46-20 victory over Holy Ground of Roopville in a North Region game played at East Coweta Middle’s MacKnight Field.
J.D. Farlow rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns and senior Austin Reeves added 136 as Heritage Christian stayed perfect against ICSGA opponents.
The Crusaders’ only loss came in their season opening game to Hope Christian in an out-of-league, last-minute makeup.
Otherwise, Heritage Christian had continued to dominate since returning to ICSGA play. With Jared Farlow taking over behind center for injured senior Dutch Williams, the Crusaders jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter only to see Holy Ground battle back to pull within one at halftime.
Farlow connected with senior Tyler Smith on a 14-yard pass to open the scoring before the elder Farlow, a junior, carried in the first of his four touchdowns to push the early lead.
Back-to-back scores from the Stallions, a second-year program, helped pull Holy Ground to within a 14-13 deficit at halftime, with one of the scored coming on a drive that followed a Crusader turnover.
After creating some breathing room with a third-quarter score, Heritage Christian’s ground game took over in the final period.
The Crusaders also received a boost from Jeremiah Winkley’s interception return for a score to ice the victory.

The War Eagles capped off a back-and-forth game between Region 5-A rivals when senior quarterback Josh Nobles scored on a goal-line sneak in overtime to win the game.
The Bobcats kicked a 22-yard-field goal after being stopped by Landmark’s defense on the first possession of extra time.
The War Eagles (4-2, 2-0) needed a clutch kick of their own in the final seconds after driving 76-yards in the closing minutes of regulation.
Landmark, which stayed undefeated in 5-A play, took a 14-10 lead to halftime only to see Mercy (4-2, 1-1) go ahead with just over a minute to play on a 11-yard touchdown pass.
