Despite a late first pitch close to 8 p.m, Northgate’s varsity softball team could have still been home in time to find out who went home on Dancing With the Stars.
On Tuesday against Creekside in its opening game of this week’s Region 4-AAAAA tournament, all the stars were Lady Vikings.
Entering the postseason for the first time since winning a Class AAAA title in 2011, Northgate, now ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA, capped off a 16-0 blanking of the Lady Seminoles with a 13-run third inning helping seal a no-hitter for senior pitcher Carleigh Myatt. Myatt struck out all nine batters she faced while the Lady Vikings got all the runs they needed in a three-run first at bat.
Outfielder Ebonee Echols went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs as top-seeded Northgate (22-5) easily advanced in its mini-bracket as one of three host sites during the first day of tournament play.
Action in 4-AAAAA picks up today with all games being played at Lovejoy Park.
Myatt, Rachel Cook, Stephanie Brown, Brenna Skalski, Katie Burns, Jenna Pealor and Casey Kent had one hit apiece. Cook had a two-run single while Pealor had an RBI double. Brown and Kent also drove in runs in the victory.
