Prep Volleyball: Northgate gets payback vs. East Coweta

The Northgate volleyball team got a taste of revenge Thursday night.
After losing to East Coweta at the county tournament and snapping a 7-year reign as tourney champs, Northgate avenged the loss with a victory over the Lady Indians.
The split moves Northgate to 25-11.
Northgate, which has finished its Area 4-AAAA regular season, will enter the area tournament as the No. 3-seed next week.
Northgate’s Randee Harvel finished with 14 kills. Elle McCord, who is expected to sign with Georgia later this year, added nine. Freshman Savannah Moore had seven kills.
Michaella Crooks and Freeman also had six blocks each. Brittany Scarbrough paced the team with 25 assists.
Northgate had a solid day serving the ball as McCord finished with six aces. McCord also finished with 16 digs, Erin Valentine had with 11digs.
“It was a complete team effort,” said Northgate coach Matt Trucks said.
Truck’s squad closes the year out this weekend by participating in the Blessed Trinity Tournament.
The Lady Vikings meet Pickens from South Carolina and Lambert on Friday, before facing Blessed Trinity, McIntosh and Westminister on Saturday.
“It’s should be good tournament, and it should be a good test for us heading into the postseason,” Trucks said.
East Coweta on a roll
Before losing to Northgate, the Lady Indians had been on a roll, winning seven games in a row.
The Lady Indians have rolled through the Area 2-AAAAA portion of their schedule with a 7-0 record.
East Coweta’s hot streak pushed it over the 20-win mark. The Lady Indians are 20-11 overall.
East Coweta still has some work to do in the regular season in their final four regular-season matches.
On Tuesday, the Lady Indians take on Starr’s Mill, the fourth-ranked team in the Class AAAAA. Thursday, the Lady Indians meet Sandy Creek, the top-ranked team in Class AAAA.
The Lady Indians have an Area 2-AAAAA game against Class AAAAA opponent Douglas County to close out the regular season on Oct. 9.
