MS Football: Trinity Christian lineups cruise

Trinity Christian’s Jordan Flagg returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown and set the tone as the Lions Middle School Team cruised to a 26-6 victory over Arlington Christian on Thursday evening.
The victory sets up a battle of unbeatens this week in the Metro Atlanta Christian Athletic Conference between county rivals Trinity and The Heritage School, both 5-0. The two teams will play Thursday at East Coweta Middle School following a lower-school game at 5:30 p.m.
After a couple of defensive stands by both teams, the Lions offense ended the first half with QB Jake Estes completing two key passes to Kasey McGinnis and Flagg, the latter on a 73-yard touchdown to take the 18-0 lead into halftime.
Trinity came out with an aggressive defensive stand on the first series of the second half and held Arlington to a three and out series. Once the Lions got the ball back, Trinity’s offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage during a six-play, 60-yard drive that ended with Flagg adding his third touchdown on an 18-yard run.
Outside linebacker Josh Hess intercepted an Arlington pass on the first play of their next series.
Trinity’s lower-school (C-team) lineup, meanwhile, handed Strong Rock its first loss of the season on Saturday morning in a 38-16 victory in a physical game.
An interception return for a touchdown on an early drive by Trinity’s Dalton Colburn began a momentum swing.
Colburn added another touchdown to push the Lions lead to 18-6 at halftime.
Trinity then capitalized on turnovers in the second half, recovering fumbles off two Strong Rock kickoff returns.
Both recoveries were made by fifth-grader Clay Hurston.
