Cross Country: Lady Vikings, Newnan girls have solid outings

Northgate junior Hailey Gollnick finished third in the girls 4A/5A race to lead local cross-country runners at the annual Carrollton Orthopaedic Clinic Invitational on Saturday.
In her first trip this year to the GHSA state championship course following runs in both the 2010 and 2011 Class AAAA finals, Gollnick finished in 21:05, just a second behind Abby Booth of Perry.
Jennifer Cora of Lakeside-DeKalb won the 4A/5A girls race in 20:16.
Lady Vikings runners Caitlin Bellora (24:11) and Erica Lee (24:36) each finished in the top-30 as Northgate placed third among 14 teams in the 5K race.
The Invitational was split into boys and girls Championship, 6A, 4A/5A and 1A/2A/3A events.
Newnan’s girls placed second among seven teams in the 6A division, led by Elizabeth Westerfield’s sixth-place finish in 22:59. Hannah Hudson placed 10th (23:15) and Anna Haydon 14th in (23:29). Maya Sherman (17th, 23:40) and Gabby Freeman (22nd, 23:56) completed the scoring for the Lady Cougars, who scored 66 points and finished behind only Brookwood’s girls, who had 22.
Newnan’s boys placed sixth among 11 teams in a 6A race also including East Coweta’s “B” lineup. Matthew Miller’s mark of 18:59 led local runners with the Cougars followed by Anthony Galvin (36th, 20:13), Ty Mossburg (20:17) and Tyler Vermilla (20:35).

East Coweta’s “A” lineups ran in respective Championship events and each placed 20th. Darian Pugh led the Lady Indians in 23:32 followed by Rebecca Baker in 24:22.

Northgate’s boys placed 13th in the 4A/5A race led by Kaleb Rainey’s time of 19:55. Josh Oller (20:10) and Spencer Ramthun (20:21) were the next Vikings to cross the line.
