Heritage School Middle and Lower School football lineups earned victories on Thursday in feeder program action.
The Hawks’ lower-school team (grades 4-6) opened the season with a dominating 42-0 win over Young Americans Christian of Conyers at home.
Heritage’s middle school team, meanwhile, improved its record to 2-0 with a 41-20 victory over Young Americans that was highlighted by a pair of Jay Macke interceptions late in the first half.
The middle school Hawks were in a battle through most of the game and trailed 14-13 late in the first half when Macke made his first pick near midfield. That set up wingback Chase Evans’ 40-yard touchdown — the second of his three scores. Hunt Thomas’ ensuing 2-point play put Heritage ahead 21-14.
Macke got his hands on another errant Young Americans pass on Heritage’s next defensive series. The second interception led by a 40-yard strike from Evans, playing quarterback out of the Wildcat formation, to tight end Patrick Pitzer that put the Hawks ahead 27-14 at halftime.
Heritage opened the second-half with an 80-yard drive capped off by Hamp Smith’s five-yard touchdown. Evans capped off his trio of touchdowns with a 40-yard return on an interception.
Starting quarterback Kirby Arnall was equally steady in the win, driving Heritage down the field before scoring on a 2-yard run. Evans’ first touchdown run gave the Hawks an early 13-point lead before Young Americans added two scores of its own to take its only lead.

Arnall finished with three completions including a 50-yard strike to Patrick Griffies to set up Smith’s touchdown.

In the lower-school victory, the Hawks scored three touchdowns in the second quarter after leading 6-0.

Sim Rhodes’ touchdown opened the scoring and he ran in another after teammate Jack Stanley’s fumble recovery.

Quarterback Gridley Pendergrast also had a touchdown before halftime in his first start for Heritage.

Wright Arnall added touchdowns on opposite ends of halftime and Branch Burns had a long touchdown run in the second half.

Both teams play Thursday at home against Creekside Christian.
