Prep Lacrosse: East Coweta sweeps South Cobb

The East Coweta lacrosse teams began the first of three consecutive Area 1-AAAAA doubleheaders on a high note Wednesday by sweeping South Cobb.
Both teams now hope to carry the momentum of victories into key matchups with Harrison and Newnan today and Friday.
The Lady Indians picked up their second Area 1-AAAAA victory by defeating South Cobb 8-6. East Coweta jumped out to a 6-4 lead at halftime and held on behind four goals by Cheyenne St. Germain.
Ciara Centenera’s tally with 20 seconds remaining gave the Lady Indians a key insurance goal. Julia Ghyzel opened the scoring in the first half and Sarah Reeves also scored for East Coweta in the victory.
The Indians, meanwhile, dominated in a 16-1 rout where nine players scored goals led by hat tricks by Bronson Smith and Colin Duncan.
Matthew Schlumper, Caleb Dailey and Matt Duncan each had two goals for East Coweta. Chris Spurling, Carter Byrum, Conner McMeen and Adam Cahir also scored in the victory.
East Coweta will host its “Lacrosse Gives Back Charity Night” tonight where teams will be collecting donations for the American Cancer Society. Door prizes and Brusters Ice Cream will be on site.
The area doubleheader against Harrison at Garland Shoemake Stadium begins with boys action at 5:30 p.m.
