The ‘old barn’ on the campus of The Heritage School closed with a bang on Friday.
Needing wins to keep pace in the Region 1-AAA standings, The Heritage School’s veteran basketball players helped respective teams come through on Senior Night, which also acted as the final game for the school’s old gym.
The Hawks remarkably rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to knock off previously undefeated Loganville Christian 86-80. Heritage School used seven 3-pointers keyed by a 24-point effort by freshman Spencer Perry.
The win capped off a sweep by Heritage School following a 44-40 victory by the Lady Hawks that was led by a 17-point performance from senior Chase Parker as her team grabbed sole possession of second place in 1-AAA.
Perry, meanwhile, connected on three of his six attempts from behind the arc to cause problems at the perimeter for the Hawks, who trailed by as many as 13 in the second half.

The other half of Loganville’s problems came in the form of Hawks senior center Garrett Jones, who turned in a 20-point effort to go with 14 rebounds, eight on defense.

The win allowed Heritage School's boys (15-3, 5-2) to pull within a game of first place in an ever-tightening race in 1-AAA after entering as one of three schools tied at 4-2 behind Loganville (10-1, 5-1) following two losses to Dominion Christian (14-5, 5-2).

Dominion stayed tied for second on Friday in 1-AAA by defeating Trinity Christian 55-35.

Heritage School's boys scored 28 points in each of the last two periods after it looked as if Loganville had gained control at halftime. Down 16-10 after one quarter, a 29-point period of its own allowed Loganville to take a 39-30 lead into the break.

The Hawks connected on 9 of 28 attempts from 3-point range and Jones and Cooper Martin combined to hit 15 of their 21 free-throw attempts to help with the comeback.

Jones added three blocks while Martin finished with a 17-point effort that included two 3-pointers and two steals. Senior Candler Rich led Heritage School with four steals while Perry and Caleb Vaughn led the team with three assists apiece.

The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 9-4 lead after one quarter in their victory while improving to 9-6 and 4-2 in 1-AAA. It wasn’t easy as Heritage School had to overcome a rough shooting night both from the floor (22 percent) and the line (13 of 23).

Heritage School was stout defensively, however, while teaming for 24 steals including six from Micalah Cushing and five from Parker, who also had six rebounds.

Elizabeth Massenburg added eight points and six rebounds and Lillie Smith had seven points and four steals in the win. Ashley Windom led the Lady Hawks with 10 rebounds.

The Heritage School’s JV boys won 48-44 while led by Chase Evans (13 points) and Caleb Woodruff (9).

DOMINION CHRISTIAN BOYS 55, TRINITY 35: Spencer Bryan led the Lions (4-16, 0-6) with eight points and Tyler Anderson added seven as Trinity battled early while down 29-21 at halftime. The Knights outscored the Lions 17-6 in the third.

LANDMARK CHRISTIAN GIRLS 55, W.D. MOHAMMED 13: Morgan McWilliams scored 15 points and Diamond Smith added 14 while each playing less than three quarters in a lopsided victory. Nyambi Williams added seven points and 15 rebounds.

W.D. MOHAMMED BOYS 60, LANDMARK CHRISTIAN 49: Malachi Dozier led the No. 9 ranked War Eagles with 12 points in a battle between two top-10 teams in Class A. Mohammed, ranked fifth, grabbed a 21-12 lead before Landmark closed to within a four-point deficit at halftime.
