MS Football: Arnall, Smokey Road advance to semifinals

The Arnall Knights and the Smokey Road Wildcats advanced to the semifinals of next week’s CCMSAL football tournament with victories on Wednesday.
Arnall rolled to an easy 46-0 victory over the Lee Timberwolves, while Smokey Road held off East Coweta 28-14.
That sets up a semifinal showdown next Tuesday at Newnan High School.
Smokey Road takes on Evans (3-2) at 5:30, while Arnall plays top-seed Madras later that night.

The Knights jumped out to a 20-0 lead at the end of the first half and never looked back, putting together a strong running and passing game on offense to go along with its stingy defense.
Milan Grice scored on long touchdown runs of 43 and 37 yards to help the team run past Lee.
Add a couple long runs from Kyle Carter, who sprinted 38 yards, and the longest run of the day from Artis Tolbert who capped the Knights’ scoring with an 82-yard run in the fourth quarter, and the Knights improved their record to 2-3.
Quarterback Will LaGuardia also proved his could throw the football. LaGuardia gave the Knights a 20-0 lead right before halftime when he connected with Devonte Brown right before the end of the first half.
The duo hooked up one more time during the contest when Brown caught LaGuardia’s 10-yard pass for the only score of the third quarter.

• Smokey Road Wildcats 28, East Coweta Indians 14

The Smokey Road Wildcats relied a pair of running backs Wednesday afternoon to carry the team to a 28-14 victory over East Coweta.

A.J. Robinson rushed for 124 yards on nine carries and also scored a pair of touchdowns en route to the victory.

Robinson gave the Wildcats a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter when he scored on a 61-yard run.

Before the end of the first quarter, Smokey Road was back in the end zone when Anderson rambled 93 yards for the score.

The Wildcats added one more touchdown in the first half when Jacob Bryant hit Michael Petty on a 9-yard run to give Smokey Road a 20-0 lead at the half.

Smokey Road added its final touchdown of the day in the third quarter when Robinson found the end zone on his second score of the contest, this time from 34-yards out.

Down 28-0 in the third quarter, East Coweta attempt a comeback as Jeremiah Gemmel scored the first of his two touchdowns. Gemmel raced 35 yards on the Indians’ first score of the game, and then added a 45-yard run in the final period.
