Playing in a region that includes five of the top seven state-ranked teams in Class AAAAA, Northgate left Saturday’s Area 4-AAAAA volleyball tournament at Whitewater with plenty of momentum after finishing as its No. 3 seed.
Northgate now makes the long trek to Richmond Hill (20-20) to open the Class AAAAA state tournament on Thursday.
Dropping both of its matches Saturday to 42-4 McIntosh, ranked second in Class AAAAA, Northgate was among five schools advancing to the state tournament in a rare case among GHSA postseason berths due to the strength of the area.
Region 7-AAAAA, which includes schools from Cobb, Cherokee and north Atlanta, also will have five state qualifiers.
Northgate (28-20) clinched a berth while defeating No. 7-ranked Ola (29-10) and No. 6-ranked Starr’s Mill (21-24).
The Lady Vikings’ tournament leaders included Randee Harvel with 34 kills. Savannah Moore added 13 blocks and Michaella Crooks had 11.
Brittany Scarbrough finished the four matches with 60 assists. Elle McCord finished with 34 digs and Erin Valentine added 27.
