Prep Softball: Whitewater knocks off Northgate in No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup

In a battle between the two-top ranked softball teams in the Ga.sports.com Class AAAAA Coaches poll, the top-ranked Whitewater Lady Wildcats knocked off second-ranked Northgate 5-0 Wednesday night.
The outcome could go along way in deciding who wins the Region 4-AAAAA title.
With the win, Whitewater moved to 16-3 overall and 8-0 in region play. For Northgate, it was the first loss in region action. The Lady Vikings fell to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in region play.
Whitewater put the game away early scoring five runs in the first inning. Four of them were unearned against Northgate pitcher starting pitcher Carleigh Myatt.
Myatt had one strikeout through three innings before being relieved by McKenzie Peace, who finished with five strikeouts.
Whitewater out hit Northgate 8-4. The Lady Vikings couldn’t overcome three errors.
Katie Burns had the only multi-hit game for Northgate, finishing 2-for-3.
Katie Carrington, Gabby Hunt, and Hannah Thompson each had two hits for the Lady Wildcats.
Northgate, East Coweta and Newnan are expected to participate in the Brookwood softball tournament starting Friday.
