BETHLEHEM —The Northgate Lady Vikings aren’t sure who their next opponent is going to be when the Class AAAAA Elite 8 volleyball tournament resumes Saturday, or even where they might play.
By rule, the GHSA is going to reseed the remaining teams in a conference call today.
Northgate head coach Matt Trucks doesn’t really even care. He is just glad his team is still playing.
The Lady Vikings entered the postseason with a bad taste still in their mouths after falling to Rockdale in the first round of the state tournament last year. So far, this year, Northgate has taken care of business in the first two rounds of the state tournament in sweeping fashion and both on the road.
Northgate knocked off Glynn Academy last week and then beat Apalachee (25-17, 25-16 and 25-15) in the Sweet 16 Tuesday.
Tuesday’s victory gave the Lady Vikings 30 wins for the season and improved their record to 30-20.
It was also a record setting night for junior Michaella Crooks, who broke the school's record for most blocks in a season with 101. The mark had been held by Aylse Lewis who now plays at South Carolina State.

Northgate’s Erin Valentine finished the game with 14 digs. Elle McCord had four aces and Brittany Scarbrough added three.

Scarbrough also finished with 22 assists. Savannah Moore added five blocks and Crooks set her season record with four blocks.

“I am really proud of the girls,” Trucks said. “I really like our chances.”

• Landmark Christian advances to Class A Elite 8

The Landmark Christian Lady War Eagles defeated Atlanta International in three games Tuesday to advance in the Class A tournament.

Landmark will learn later today who they play in Saturday’s Elite 8. Landmark has won 13 in a row, improving its record to 39-14 and 15-2 against Class A teams.

Tiffany Creamer led with 20 kills, five aces and 12 digs. Mary Michael McCathern had eight kills and 4.5 blocks. Jenny Luckie had 13 digs and three aces. Ellen Anderson led with 34 assists.
