The East Coweta Lady Indians volleyball team is gearing up for next week’s Area 2-AAAAAA tournament by playing some top-notch competition.
Last Thursday afternoon, they held their own against Starr’s Mill, the seventh-ranked team in Class AAAAA, before falling to the Lady Panthers 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23 in a best of five match.
The Lady Indians close out the regular season tomorrow (Thurs., Oct. 4) against two more top-ranked teams when they play No. 1 Sandy Creek and No, 7 Columbus at Sandy Creek.
Newnan turns things around
A year has made a big difference in the success of the Newnan volleyball team.
After winning just three games a year ago, Newnan has kicked it into overdrive with seven times as many wins as the 2011 season.
Newnan closes out the 2012 regular season with a match at Landmark, the second-ranked team in the Class A poll.

The Lady Cougars played some of their best volleyball during the middle of the regular season, winning nine matches in a row.

During the long winning streak, the Lady Cougars lost just one game, winning a 2-1 decision over LaGrange.

Mimi Yancey, Alexis Kelleyand Ayla Brewer are the only three seniors on this year’s team.

Northgate ready for final tuneup

The Northgate Lady Vikings have been in the top-five of the gasports.com Class AAAAA coaches’ poll all year.

With a 25-12 record and a No. 5 ranking, Northgate heads into the last week of the regular season facing a pretty big test.

After failing to win the Coweta County tournament for the first time in seven years when it lost to East Coweta 2-1 (25-22, 17-25, and 25-20), the Lady Vikings got a little revenge on the Lady Indians the last time they played a match, winning 2-1 (21-25, 25-17 and 25-21).

Now, the Lady Vikings will gear up for next week’s region tournament by playing this wekend in the Serve for the Cure tournament.

It features Pickens from South Carolina, Blessed Trinity, McIntosh and Westminister.
