Prep Volleyball: East Coweta adds third-place trophy

The East Coweta volleyball team followed up Thursday night’s Coweta County Championship with a third place performance in the Gold Bracket at Georgia Challenge on Saturday.
The Lady Indians won three out of four matches, including wins against Wesleyan (25-23, 26-24), Marietta (25-22 and 25-8) and George Walton Academy. With the three wins, the Lady Indians improved to 14-9.
“It’s been a big week for us,” East Coweta head coach Dena Taylor said. “Winning the county tournament and winning those matches on Saturday in the tournament, helped.”
East Coweta dethroned Northgate as county champs on Thursday after Northgate had won the event seven times in a row.
On Tuesday, the Lady Indians travel to Langston Hughes for Area 2-AAAAA matches. In addition to Langston Hughes, Westlake will also participate.

Trinity Christian picks up wins

The Trinity School volleyball team improved its record to 4-0 recently with victories over Dominion (25-16, 25-13, 25-16), Stratford (25-10, 25-16 25-11), Harvester (25-22, 25-18, 25-9) and the Weber School (25-22, 25-18, 25-9).

Elissa Waldrop led the way with seven kills and two digs in the team’s win against Dominion. Ashton Bigler added five aces and Coyle added eight aces. Micayla Patterson finished with 16 assists.

Waldrop added seven aces and seven kills against Stratford and Coyle had four aces.

Against Harvester, Patterson had 27 assists and three kills. Julie Smaltz came off the bench and helped pace the team to the win.

In the game against The Weber School, Bigler posted 16 kills, five digs and six aces. Patterson had 31 assists.

Trinity takes on the Heritage School next Tuesday.
