Father William Rian Adams was ordained to the priesthood n services at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church near Sharpsburg.
David Epps, auxiliary bishop in the Southeast Province of the CEC, acting on behalf of Archbishop Douglas Woodall of the Archdiocese of the Armed Forces, administered the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Adams had already been approved to serve as a chaplain with the United States Army.
He was expected to go on active duty in September. The ordination service was held July 20.
Adams, who grew up in a Pentecostal church, received a bachelor of arts degree in biblical studies. He completed his training at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss. where he received a master of divinity degree with honors. His thesis in historical theology was titled "Charles Fox Parham and Frank J. Ewart: Investigating the Historical and Soteriological Implications of Early Pentecostal Trinitarian Theology."
In 2006 Adams was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force Reserve as a chaplain candidate. He later transferred his candidacy to the U.S. Army.
The ordination sermon was delivered by aa CEC priest and U. S. Army chaplain, Major Jonathan Landon of Senoia. Landon is a veteran of the war in Iraq.
Not only did all priests present lay hands on the ordinand, Adam's grandfather, a life-long Pentecostal minister, was also invited by Epps to lay hands on his grandson. Prior to the end of the service, all military veterans and Adam's parents were invited to come forward to pray for the future chaplain.
Adams and his wife, Amber, were scheduled to attend a chaplain's convocation in Orlando prior to reporting for duty in September.
