Toy collection, music today at Ashley Park

Bridging the Gap will be collecting unwrapped toys and gift cards today during the Christmas at Ashley Park event today.

Christmas at Ashley Park will start at 4:45 p.m. with Santa Claus arriving at dusk. Alison Wallace of BTG said the ministry will be collecting unwrapped toys for children and gift cards appropriate for teens.

Many programs that provide gifts at Christmas only serve younger children, and BTG is making an effort to serve Coweta teens who otherwise would have a slim holiday.

“We are already serving 1,500 kids through churches,” Wallace said. The Christmas in Coweta program coordinates with local churches, giving congregations names of children who live near the church.

Wallace said there are “135 kids and teens (who have not applied with anyone else) on our waiting list.” There is a screening process, and BTG recently “took 90 kids off of our list who had tried to apply at other places,” she said.

The sanctuary choir and senior high choir from First Baptist Church in Newnan will be among the groups performing at Christmas at Ashley Park.
