A sanctuary filled with youngsters, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends celebrate the conclusion of Vacation Bible School at Central Baptist Church on July 12.

A number of area churches have held Vacation Bible School this summer.

Churches have used a variety of themes — ranging from the jungle to a theme park to a cowboy ranch. Crafts, music, outdoor activities and refreshments have been enjoyed in abundance.

Two churches still have VBS programs on the calendar, and both will be hold a one-day Vacation Bible School.

Gordon Road Church of Christ is holding its VBS today. Hours will be from 9 a.m.-noon, and the VBS will be for ages 3-13.

Lunch will be served after the class is over.

Emory Chapel United Methodist Church at Dresden is inviting children ages 3-10 to attend their Vacation Bible School — Out of the Box on July 30. Registration will begin at 11:45 a.m. with lunch to follow in the fellowship hall.

The theme this year is “Hay Day.” Emory Chapel’s VBS will be “an afternoon filled with song, games, fun and interaction to learn more about recognizing Bible lessons in everyday life,” said Mike Ayers, pastor of the church.

The day will conclude with the Emory Chapel Community Supper at 6 p.m. “Parents — as well as the community — are invited and encouraged to attend the supper,” Ayers said. Parents will be able to gather their children’s craft.

Ayers said there also will be a short VBS closing and graduation.
