Allen-Lee collecting shoes for Soles4SoulsFrom Staff Reports
Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Lone Oak is again collecting shoes for the Soles4Souls program.
The church has participated in the program for several years. The project was launched in early February, and shoes may be brought to the church at regular service times through mid-March.
Since 2005, Soles4Souls has delivered more than 19 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. The shoes have been distributed to people in more than 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.
Soles4Souls facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. Shoe companies, retailers, and individuals can donate footwear – both new and used.
Soles4Souls teams coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over one million pairs donated for these disasters. In October of last year, Soles4Souls sponsored Barefoot4Them, asking people to do without shoes on Oct. 10 to spread awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life.
Soles4Souls collects new shoes to give relief to the victims of poverty and natural disasters. The charity collects used shoes to support micro-enterprise efforts. Soles4Souls’ other two divisions, Clothes4Souls and Hope4Souls, provide the same relief and support through clothing and other necessities.
