Dixon to speak on Women's Day at Newnan Chapel

The United Methodist Women of Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church will hold their Women’s Day program on Jan. 27 at 10 a.m.
The speaker will be Cecelia Dixon. She is the wife of the pastor of Newnan Chapel, Dr. Marcus E. Dixon.
Mrs. Dixon is the younger of two daughters born In Philadelphia, Penn., to Mrs. Dorothy King and the late Albert King. She attended Varick Memorial Temple AME Church, and she was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System.
Upon graduating from high school, she was employed by Bell of Pennsylvania. She later worked at several other Bell companies over the course of 33 years. These included New York Telephone, Pacific Telephone and Southern Bell/Bell South Telecommunications.
Outside of work, Mrs. Dixon has served in many volunteer capacities. During her tenure with Bell South, she worked tirelessly with the Telephone Pioneers of America, the nation’s largest volunteer organization.
She was the first black president of the local pioneer council Austell-Marietta, and under her leadership, they captured five out of seven first place awards at their annual convention. She also served as the administrative assistant for the doctor of ministry program at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta for more than 11 years.

She has served as the editor of the St. Paul Gazette, a weekly newsletter of St. Paul UMC in Gainesville, and is the immediate past president of The Association of Professional Support (TAPS) of ITC.

Mrs. Dixon has been recognized numerous times for the service she has rendered. Some of her honors include Professional Woman of the Year 1996, Outstanding Sales Award, Count on Me Award, Dedicated Service Award and Junior Achievement Volunteer Award.

She has been married to Marcus E. Dixon for 45 years, and they are the parents of two grown daughters, Marlo Johnson and Michele Dumas. They have also been blessed with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The theme for the Women’s Day at Newnan Chapel is “Follow Peace with All.”
