The revitalization under way in Senoia seems special. It has caught the attention of Southern Living magazine, which is highlighting Senoia by building its next "Idea House" in the East Coweta town. The "Idea House" will be built in 2010 and will be open for tours beginning in June and continuing until Christmas.
Tours of the Southern Living "Idea House" are expected to bring somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000 people to Senoia to get a glimpse of what's happening there.
What's happening is an aggressive downtown redevelopment initiative in the Senoia historic district, spearheaded by RiverWood Studios officials who describe the project as "an in-town urban living, dining and cultural experience that includes shopping, attractions and ambience."
Vacant downtown land has been purchased for development, which is to blend with the town's existing architecture of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The Southern Living house will be part of one of the brownstones that RiverWood hopes will attract residents and film production companies to Senoia. The brownstones will look like those in New York or Boston.
The "Idea House" will be the first of five such luxury brownstones on the old McKnight gin property. The house will be 3,700 square feet and three-and-a-half stories. The brownstones will be priced from around $600,000 to $1 million.
This Senoia project is exciting. The Southern Living connection will bring attention to the project and should be a shot in the arm to helping it succeed. Senoia is indeed a lovely Southern town. This development can enhance the town and allow more people to discover the grand quality of life available in Coweta County.

The re-development of Senoia is fantastic. The new commercial buildings are beautiful and there are great things happening there. I think that residential development on the McKnight gin property is really going to add a nice element to the town. That being said, isn't $600k - $1M over-shooting it a bit?
