Senoia no longer loving, caring

I was not allowed to get my driver's license until I was 17. I will never forget that day, but not for the usual reasons that most young people remember the day.

I was alone. I was in a long line. It was an hour and a half before I got to the window. In front of me was an elderly black gentleman who was in his late 80s or 90s, and he was a frail but very kind and gentle person. It was 1963.

We talked as we waited for our turn. When we reached the window, the policeman, a white man (I am ashamed to say), fat, weighed at least 350 pounds, began to yell and call the elderly man in front of me all kinds of names. I was shocked.

The policeman told the man he did not have the proper form and threw the form back in his face and told him to get in the back of the line and fill it out. I was shocked that an adult could treat an elderly person in such a manner, and I wanted to say something so bad. I was 17 and this was a law officer. Sadly, I said nothing. I left feeling ashamed for my race and myself.

Well, I am not 17 today, and I can't sit by and allow this same type of attitude to prevail without speaking. Ms. Storey has the right to keep her school bus on her property, even without a hardship, but, in fact, she does have a hardship and it should be honored. Senoia once was a loving, caring community. Now, with your article, the county and others know that is not the truth today in Senoia. Human beings make a community. The worth of a human being is greater than an ordinance.
