Rally promoted hatred, racism

We as Americans have a right to free speech, but we also have a democracy.

I watched Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-6th District, Minn.) stand before a rally at the capital grounds in Washington saying she was proud and honored, as were the congressmen and congresswomen behind her, to support the individuals at a rally for health care reform. As she was speaking the TV cameras began to view the numerous people at the rally holding many signs and posters.

How horrifying it was to see posters with photographs of dead Jewish victims of the Holocaust, the genocidal destruction by Nazi Germany and their allies. This at a political rally the Republican Leadership in Congress is supporting.

Pictures of victims of the Holocaust -- that was not a rally for health care reform.

Democracy is about freedom, justice, equality. At most, that rally promoted hatred and racism.

Shame on the Republicans for supporting racism and hatred in America. I dearly hope Congressman Lynn Westmoreland was not at that rally. Let's hope.
