For years, the area around Newnan's Court Square has displayed Christmas season lights and decorations guaranteed to brighten any mood.
Small white lights have already been placed in the trees lining downtown streets. Soon, a huge Christmas tree will be placed on the Court Square to greet locals and visitors and serve as the backdrop for Santa's annual visit.
In recent years, many towns have scaled back or eliminated such displays due to budgetary concerns. Newnan officials are to be commended for their determination to not just maintain but improve a beloved holiday tradition.
Right now, crews from Newnan Utilities are working throughout downtown Newnan to install the displays. Lamp poles are being wrapped in garland, bows are being hung from streetlights and huge snowflakes will add to the scene.
The work causes occasional traffic delays, but the results are always worth it.
For years we have heard from friends, neighbors and visitors about how much they enjoy the downtown Newnan Christmas decorations. Once the lights are turned on, make sure you enjoy the experience for yourself.
The days may be getting shorter, but in downtown Newnan, brighter nights are just ahead. This is one show you don't want to miss.
