Willie L. Clements and John A. Malcolm love Grantville, and they have shown their love for the community during their careers in public service. Both men are former Grantville City Council members who faithfully served the small south Coweta town.
On Sunday the town came together to honor and celebrate the men for their dedicated service. The celebration was held in the Willie L. Clements/John A. Malcolm Community Center at 97 Brown School Drive.
Speakers at the program painted a wonderful picture of faithfulness, dedication and commitment to service, and to meeting the needs of citizens in their community. Former Coweta County Commissioner Robert Wood said both honorees were always an inspiration to him.
Clements and Malcolm were much more than committed community servants. They, too, were committed to their families.
Clements' daughter Vickie Williams lovingly spoke of her father: "You put your whole heart and soul into whatever you do ... You have been my role model and taught me the values of life."
Malcolm's wife, Alice, said, "Today is a stellar day in our lives. We never thought this day would come, and that the city council would be so thoughtful ... But they did it. And I am thankful and happy."
Mrs. Malcolm continued, "We've had progress in this town because of the foresight of Mr. Malcolm and Mr. Clements."
Small towns indeed are fortunate when men like Willie L. Clements and John A. Malcolm step forward and offer their talents to serve their community. Clements and Malcolm have served Grantville well. And on Sunday, Grantville said thanks.
