Ours is a community that has long cried for improved health care facilities. With all that is happening in medical care in Newnan and Coweta County, it seems those cries are being heard. New health care facilities are beginning to roll in, and more are on the way.
The list of health care projects is impressive
-- On Friday, the Veterans Administration Community-Based Outpatients Clinic opened at 39-A Oak Hill Court near Highway 34 East and Sullivan Road, to serve our military veterans.
-- Bids are due back to Coweta County on Dec. 17 to build a new Coweta County Health Department building on Hospital Road to replace the crammed facility on Jackson Street in Newnan.
-- Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) has selected Ashley Park in Newnan as the site of a proposed cancer treatment hospital that will serve patients in the Southeast and provide 500 new jobs.
-- Piedmont Newnan Hospital plans a new 136-bed hospital on Poplar Road on the east side of Interstate 85 to replace the current hospital on Hospital Road.
-- There's also talk of a Coweta Samaritan Clinic, a low-cost health services clinic to mainly serve those who are uninsured and underinsured. A presentation on this plan will be presented to the Country Hospital Authority on Tuesday afternoon. This facility would be aimed at serving many underinsured patients who crowd hospital emergency rooms for routine medical care.
All these health care projects on the Newnan-Coweta horizon fit well together. They would dramatically improve health care in our community and answer the cries from citizens for improved health services.
