Aid for young children, parents

Stepping Stones is a hospital-based early intervention program driven by teams of volunteer educators from the Coweta County School System who visit new moms in the hospital setting and deliver a bag of readiness information and visit with each new mother at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. The purpose of the program is to promote the initial parenting skills needed to prepare children for successful beginnings and to establish an initial link of communication between the home and school. If a mother is missed in the hospital setting, she receives the information through the mail. Stepping Stones is housed at the Parent Resource Center of the Coweta County School System, telephone 770-254-1985. The Puddle Jumper program is a "mommy and me" designed for 2- and 3-year olds. The program is a partnership of the Stepping Stones Early Intervention project and the Coweta County School System Title 1 program. The goal of the program is to teach moms and dads skills that will help them to interact more effectively with their preschoolers.
These skills will help their preschooler be better prepared for the early years of learning. There are two series of the program. The first six weeks the focus is on primary colors and the next four weeks the focus is on shapes. The program is a 10-week commitment. Classes are held at the Parent Resource Center of the Coweta County School System. They last for 90 minutes one day a week. Class sizes are limited. Call or email me to enroll at 770-254-1985 or HYPERLINK, janie.cantrell@cowetaschools.org Classes are held from August to May. There is no charge. Janie Cantrell Newnan
