I don't think anyone could have said it better than what Commander Dick Stender wrote in his letter ("Put away complaints," June 22).
My name is on a brick, a Korean war veteran, and I am very proud of the work the committee did to get the Veterans Memorial Plaza built with limited resources.
I want to thank Stender for all the work he has done on the veterans' behalf. I might stand corrected, but I don't recall any ceremonies happening on Memorial Day prior to Dick Stender getting involved with the program, at least not at the park on Jackson/Temple.
I just hope we continue to have a large crowd every Memorial Day like we had this year.
