Sound Off for Wednesday

Not everyone laughed: I was offended by comments made at the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser by Anita Renfroe. Her depiction of fathers being worthless and her racial stereotyping “in thu Muthahood” routine were not funny.

Bypass the Post Office: Obliviously, the person who said call the Post Office instead of doing a Sound Off has never dealt with the postal bureaucracy. “We have no control over that,” “Regulations don’t allow us to do that,” “Fill out a formal complaint and we’ll get back to you in three months.”

What’s the right height? If my mailbox is the wrong height or in the wrong place, don’t you think knocking the door off is kind of a passive-aggressive way of telling me? At least I used my words.

What does it tell us? It’s kind of an indictment of our society today. What if one of the neighbors had gotten involved in the altercation of Zimmerman/Martin instead of walking back inside and calling 911? I don’t think a young man would be dead or the other facing life imprisonment.

Let them play: The Christian school headmaster who won’t let the girls play football supports President Carter’s comments that religious leaders believe that women are inferior to men.

Equal rights: In the editorial on June 28 regarding gay marriage, I believe that someone needs to get off their high horse and stop judging other people. The people who support gay marriage are only asking for the same rights as everyone else, that 1 + 1 equals 2. I’m not sure how they would think that it equaled 3. Doesn’t this country still have the separation of church and state?

Not from the ladies: Real Southern ladies never use the N-word. Ever. Period.

So let me get this straight: Alec Baldwin tweets an anti-gay slur and gets to keep his job/commercials for Capital One Venture Card while Paula Deen’s career is destroyed and, more importantly, her reputation is irrevocably ruined. Could it be because Paula Deen is a Southerner or because Alec Baldwin is not from the South and is a big supporter of Democrats? Would somebody please explain this to me?

Paula Deen: Why can’t we forgive and forget and turn the other cheek. Why must we always retaliate?

<\z12>Forcing views: Conservatives claim they are against government regulations, but they do all they can to have the government impose their religious beliefs on others in the form of laws and regulations.

<\z12>Two standards: Paula Deen has been crucified for something she said 30 years ago, and has lost many of her sponsors. Alec Baldwin had a homophobic rant last week and we’ve hardly heard about it. Is there really a different standard for those Hollywood types.

<\z12>Get em new books: East Coweta English teachers are only given one set of ten year old, duct tape repaired English textbooks for all their English classes. Many changes to the English vocabulary and English language since 2003 have occurred. Is this how we want our students learn and prepare for the future?
