Sound Off - Wednesday, May 8

What do you expect? Teachers complain about students behavior. Well, duh. Seventy-five percent of marriages end in divorce. Fatherless homes = 69 percent or more for minorities. Religion booted from public schools, can’t punish children or face charges, no morals, no values or no family structure, and school administrators play it all off.

.............

Check the yield signs:  Turning left onto Georgia 154 while traveling down U.S. 29 South? Those traveling north do not have a yield sign at that intersection, so the left turn must yield. You are not entitled to the right-of-way because you are in a hurry.

.............

No he didn’t: Stop saying Hitler confiscated guns. He did no such thing. Just because you want to believe it doesn’t make it true.

.............

Just stop: To the misbehaving, speeding, weaving, feeling entitled, whiners and complainers: try lending a hand and being more thankful and grateful for living in America. You wouldn’t last two days in the Third World. Talk about weak.

.............

Who makes what: Garbage collectors are mandatory and do not make $50,000-plus, and if kindergarten teachers are not mandatory then they should not be making above $32,000 for 180 days of school.

.............

Please level it: Driving on Highway 29 into Newnan, a stranger to our beautiful city sees the Newnan House Motel and thinks that is a representation of our Newnan. City Council - make him tear it down.

.............

Hard-core killers: If you believe what you hear, everyone should pack a firearm. Crime and murder would cease. Isn’t it funny how violence solves everything?

.............

Crazy NRA: Please tell me there’s one NRAer who thinks it’s a bad idea to give a child a rifle, even if it’s called Crikett. Tell me, please.

.............

Way to go: Lee Middle School Chorus Director Bonnie Krider did a fantastic job at the chorus spring concert “Up, Up and Away.” These are all talented young people. Job well done.

.............

Pulling trailers: Please, to the people all over the county that pull trailers: trailer lights need to be checked every time you hook up. It is very dangerous to be behind a trailer with non-working lights.

.............

That’s ignorant: All terrorists are Muslim? Really? Were Timothy McVeigh, Terry Nichols, and Ted Kaczynski just “bad guys” because they weren’t Muslim? Your prejudice makes you sound ignorant.

.............

Painful admission: We commemorate the tragic date of September 11, 2001, each year. As painful as it may be and sad as it is, this is the legacy of George Bush. He still owes us an explanation and it’s not “I thought he had WMDs.”

.............

New truck and EBT? I don’t have to get to know people. I have eyes to see when someone in front of me pays for two carts of groceries with EBT and then goes out to put them in their brand new truck.

.............

Ignoring the past: Our nation was wrecked by Republican George W. Bush as president. We and Obama are paying the price for the cleanup. He who ignores the past is destined to repeat it. We must hold accountable the culprit of the act, not the one who follows as being responsible for the act, okay? People, please.

.............

Dial the gun level back some: Not worried about my guns being taken. Concerned about the amount of violence daily at the muzzle of a firearm. Gun-lovers, dial back your tone some. Can everyone act a lot more civil and not so quick to draw a weapon in a disagreement?

.............

Anti-Muslim bigots: All terrorists are Muslim is baloney. My forefathers, parents and myself have never been terrorized by Muslims, only by gun-toting, torch-bearing Southern Cracker Christians flying that hideous flag with white hoods on. Not Muslims.

.............

Thanks, NFD: I would like to recognize the heroic efforts made by the Newnan Fire Department during the tragic fire on April 27. The incredible dedication, hard work and kindness shown by these men on this day and every day they put on their uniforms and come to work for 24 hours is a gift to this community. Thank you.

.............

Free roadkill service: Why tax ourselves with a roadkill cleanup crew, when the buzzards, aka vultures, do the job just wonderfully and for the low cost of just filling their bellies.

.............

Call back please: I don’t understand why so many service businesses advertise but then never return calls, or fail to show up as promised and never call back. It is almost as if you have to beg them to take your money.

.............

Grab a bulldozer: He put spikes in the driveways of the Newnan House Motel. Is that to keep the trucks from parking there? What is it going to take for the county to make him tear that horrible structure down? Spikes are not the answer; a bulldozer is the correct answer.

.............

Tall grass already? Good grief, we’re already starting with the vents about tall grass on the side of the roads. I’m just about as tired of that as driving without headlights in the rain and slow drivers in the left lane. Get over it already.

.............

Gillespie case: Justice was served in the Gillespie case. I commend Judge Baldwin for seeing that there’s always two sides to a story. A sentence of 20-years probation and being placed on the sex offender registry is a tough sentence. He saw that this young man deserved a chance and prison was not the answer in this particular case.

.............

Wild West: Can’t you just see how comfortable and at peace everybody will be at the game, at the grocery store, at worship and while shopping when we are all strapped with our weapons and our heads on a swivel constantly? What joy.
