Letter To The Editor

It's not the Republicans

by Margaret J. Milligan

In response to the letter by Mr. Dennis Thompson of Newnan on April 20:

Wait a minute, Mr. Thompson, it was not the Republicans who merged the Social Security trust fund into the general fund. It was - guess who - Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat.

It is not the Republicans who want to cut Social Security, but your president. It is not the Republicans who want to make the military pay for their injuries sustained defending you. It is your president. It is not the Republicans who take my hard-earned dollars and give it to illegals and Americans who choose not to provide for themselves. It is not the Republicans who are presenting your president’s budget to cut military retired pay and cut Social Security.

It is not the Republicans who forced Obamacare through without reading the bill - Nancy Pelosi (a Democrat) said, “We need to pass it so we can read it.” It is not a Republican president, secretary of defense or any other government official who abandoned the people in the Benghaizi Embassy to be slaughtered by militants. It was, guess who, Democrats.

I am sure you are a very dedicated American, Mr. Thompson, but I think you need to do a little research and see which party has done what. I, too, am on retired income, which I worked hard for since I was age 14. I paid not only Social Security, but also into the federal retirement plan. And, guess what, Mr. Thompson, because I am a federal government retiree I do draw my federal retirement but am denied my Social Security. Now, who do you think is getting my Social Security? It isn’t me.

To those who think medicare is a government handout to senior citizens, let me tell you we pay $209.80 monthly for the two of us. Please do a little research before blaming the Republicans for what the Democrats have done, are doing, and will continue to do as long as people who do not work, do not pay income tax, have the ability to vote and keep them in office. Before a person is allowed to vote they should be required to show a receipt for income tax paid.

Also, it is not the Republicans who want to draw down our military to the size of a third world country. One more thing, according to our Constitution, which this administration comprised of Democrats refuse to acknowledge, we are not a democracy. Our Founding Fathers were intelligent enough to know a democracy cannot last and that is why they made our country a Republic.

May the Lord bless you and all Americans.
