Rants, Raves & Really?!?

A look back at last week’s highs, lows and whatevers:

REALLY?!?: Grantville has a new police chief, the third one in about as many years. Based on history, one could argue this position is not exactly secure, nor one a person retires from. But we wish Javier Garcia good luck. You are going to need it, and then some.

RANT: A Senoia man was arrested on two separate child molestation incidents. However, his name is being withheld because he was a juvenile – under the age of 17 – when the alleged incidents occurred.

REALLY?!?: There is a really big cat or some type of cougar/panther/yeti/loch ness thing roaming the woods. At least two couples have reported seeing the animal, which also has grabbed family pets and disappeared.

RAVE: More “Walking Dead” filming is on the horizon in Senoia. This time, a 15-foot wall is being built to surround a portion of the Gin Property development, including brownstones and several homes. That upscale area also is the site of two “Southern Living” Idea Houses. Just goes to show you zombies don’t care about income levels or fine Southern living.

RANT: A well-known Carroll County businessman, Richard Michael Haney Sr., 70, was killed in an amateur-built airplane crash. Also killed was his grandson, Jeffrey Haney, 9. Haney bought the Carrollton Ford dealership in 1969 and ran it for 30 years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

RAVE: Let’s hear it – once again – for Coweta County students who improved their performance on the 2014 End-of-Course Tests. Better yet, Coweta students scored higher than the state average on seven out of eight testing areas. The only bad mark, so to speak, was in coordinate algebra, whatever the heck that is. If it has anything to do with the quadratic formula, well …

RANT: Bobby Hammond, a Newnan native and World War II veteran, died at his home. He was 88. His memoir, “My Story To Tell,” was serialized in The Newnan Times-Herald. He was also interviewed for a series on World War II veterans that resulted in the book “Coweta’s Greatest Generation,” published by the newspaper. Thank you for your service.

RAVE: Newnan-born Kandice Bell, a contemporary gospel singer, is holding an album release concert July 27 to benefit the Community Welcome House. The facility provides shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence.

RAVE: Here’s something to crow about. Well, rather, bark about. Wild Lil Ramblin’ Rose, a teacup poodle from north Coweta, has been named America’s Top Dog Model for 2014. Wild Rose beat out nearly 1,000 contestants and is now a big calendar star. She’s slated to be the feature on the 2016 America’s Top Dog Model calendar. Can Sports Illustrated be far behind?

REALLY?!?: Looks like we’ve got our own celebrity sleuths. Barry and Gabby Isear were at a Tim McGraw concert in Atlanta and captured video of the country star allegedly swatting away an overly aggressive female fan. The celeb site TMZ had footage, but the Isears’ was better, and it ended up on that site as well as on several other major news and celebrity websites.
