Rants, Raves & Really?!?

RAVE, RAVE, RAVE: Thanks to all the folks across the county who made sure the July 4 weekend here was a big celebration of America and what makes it great. Main Street Newnan sponsored the parade, and the Newnan Rotary Club offered its annual fireworks extravaganza at Drake Stadium. Churches cooked up and served barbecue in Moreland while vendors sold all kinds of good things. The Southern Ground Senoia Social on Saturday offered music and fun activities downtown. Then Haralson held its parade, dedication of facilities at the city park, and one last fireworks explosion in the Saturday night sky.

RANT: A woman who hired herself out as a cleaning woman to a Sharpsburg family turned out to be a felon who is on parole for forgery and identity theft.

RAVE: To Kazou Sunaga, consul general of Japan in Atlanta, for visiting the Yokogawa plant at Shenandoah Industrial Park. Asia-based industries have provided many jobs and created huge economic impact in Coweta County.

REALLY?!? Vantorious Krishad Dixon, who was severely injured after being shot and run over by a vehicle in March, has now been arrested for robbing a man at gunpoint in the Rocky Hill neighborhood.

RAVE: To nursing students from West Georgia Technical College for holding a health fair at the Tommy Thompson Senior Center.

RAVE: While the community mourns the loss of Hannah Hobbs, a young mother from Senoia, her legacy of giving and caring continues. Eight of Hobbs’ organs were transplanted to give people opportunities for a more full life.

RAVE: Cooperation yields good results. State and federal funds are being combined to build a new taxiway at Newnan-Coweta Airport’s Whitlock Field.

RAVE: To Jennie Sander, who bought the winning ticket for the Moreland United Methodist Quilter’s quilt in 2013 and donated it back – so the Quilters could have one more raffle to help with church projects.

REALLY?!? Hot sunshine in south Georgia will be helping Cowetans keep cool. Coweta-Fayette EMC announced plans to participate in a large scale solar project that will use a solar arrange in Jeff Davis County to generate electricity for electric cooperatives around the state.

RAVE: To Steve and Marie Swope for their generous donation to the University of West Georgia’s new campus in Newnan. One of the solariums on campus will be named in their honor.

RAVE: To Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity. The organization is celebrating its first 25 years building decent homes for people in our county.

REALLY?!? Paul Libri, who identified himself as Tim Taylor while urging the Grantville City Council to have him give workshop on sex trafficking, is headed for court proceedings for impersonating a police officer in Palmetto. Libri, who has a criminal record for fraud, was also a “person of interest” in an arson investigation in Coweta County a few years back.
