Rants, Raves & Really?!?

A look back at last week’s highs, lows and whatevers:

RAVE: It was Phase 2 of yet another winter storm, but this time with ice. But we learned our lesson from the previous hit and just about everyone took the advice of the professionals — truck drivers — who said, “Just park it.”

RAVE: Volunteers with the AARP Foundation are helping local residents file federal and state income tax returns for free. Last year, the group helped more than 800 people. The help is available twice a week at two of the public libraries.

RANT: Coweta County authorities are searching for a suspect alleged to have shot at his girlfriend and three children. Jimmy Lee Rosser Jr., 29, is wanted for multiple charges, including four counts of aggravated assault. Authorities said he fired a gun at his girlfriend’s car — the bullet was found sitting on the cushion of a child’s safety seat. Fortunately, the child was not in it.

RAVE: More than 100 friends and supporters turned out for a fundraiser for Megan Winters, who fell down a 50-foot well six weeks ago and suffered several serious injuries. A big shoutout to Frank’s Family Restaurant in Palmetto, which helped organize the Pasta for Megan fundraiser and hosted the event.

REALLY?!? Robert Stephen Whitehead, 50, was charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats after allegedly threatening to blow up his house — with his family in it. At one point, witnesses said Whitehead was releasing propane gas into the residence while having lighters next to him.

RANT: A 34-year-old is behind bars for allegedly killing his father with a knife. Justin Lee Earhart, 31, is charged with murder in his father’s death. Ironically, his father, Richard L. Earhart, 58, posted bond for Justin last November after Justin was arrested on burglary charges.

RAVE: Authorities have captured one of three suspects charged with ramming a stolen vehicle into the AR Bunker and stealing more than 30 rifles and firearms valued at more than $70,000. Let’s catch the other two quickly and get those guns off the streets.
