Wake up, America

"Wake up, America!"-- I keep hearing this from the far right, but maybe it's time for working class and middle class right-wingers to wake up and realize who is controlling right-wing politics. Remember, "he who pays the piper calls the tune."

Right-wing foundations, propaganda, financing, and talking points are all controlled by a few billionaires. These people have the where-with-all to control politics all the way down to the local level, giving them the ability to gerrymander state governments, gain control of Congress, possibly elect a president and, thereby, control the Supreme Court itself.

We could easily become a North Korea-like country ruled by an elite few with everyone else being part of a powerless working class. Yes, I know, North Korea took a different path, but the result could be the same. And you can bet, if these people ever take control, the first thing they will do is take your guns, the second thing is to take your books, and the third thing is to take your religion.

I want to issue a small challenge to each of you to see your relative position in America. Let's make a bar graph: Let 1 inch in height equal $1 million and make a line at 0 to represent someone in poverty; make a bar 1 inch high to represent a millionaire, then make a bar to represent your net worth. Now make a bar 1,000 inches high [83 feet] to represent a billionaire, then a bar 3,458 feet high [appx. 2/3 mile] to represent $41.5 billion, the wealth of either Koch brother; and finally, a bar 6,000 feet high [over 1 mile] to represent $72 billion, the wealth of Bill Gates. Who are you closer to, someone in poverty or a billionaire?

According to Forbes, there are 442 billionaires in America. Except for a few philanthropists, do you really feel these people care about you? And remember, these people want the ability to bequeath their wealth to their heirs to the Nth generation. Wake up, America!
