Not just a place on a map
After having moved to this wonderful friendly town, I found Newnan is not just a place on a map. It is a wonderful, fun-filled, joyous experience. Have you ever visited a church where everyone is a stranger, but all the people are warm and friendly and they make you feel welcome? You sort of come to expect it, after all, you are in church.
I have had this “church” experience each and every day, no matter where I am in Newnan. I have met people of all walks of life — farmers, blue-collar workers, white-collar workers, airline pilots, book writers, etc., etc. — they are all very nice, very friendly.
At first, I could not grasp what was happening. I thought I had a people magnet in my pocket. Everyone I saw seemed to be drawn to me. It was — and still is — a good feeling.
By now some of you may have read the story and have seen my picture in this same paper a few weeks ago. If you have, you know that I am the new kid on the block. To say I dress a little out of the ordinary would be an understatement.
I am sure that a lot of you have seen me dance on the corner in downtown Newnan. I am sure also that you know I like to talk to anyone that is willing to engage in a conversation and that I like waving at people. I understand that some may think I am crazy, and in some places, I have had people cross the street to avoid me.
Not in Newnan! People are more likely to cross the street to meet me, and everyone I have met seems to like the way I dress. I just love this town and all the people in it. Thank you, Newnan, for such a warm welcome and wonderful experience.
