Madeline’s last cheer

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write something worth reading or do things worth writing - Benjamin Franklin

Madeline McTier will not soon be forgotten.

A quick scan at one of the Facebook pages set up for her — PrayforMadeline — has posts from not only all over the country, but from foreign countries.

The junior and cheerleader at East Coweta High School died Tuesday after a long bout with brain cancer.

Students from Coweta’s three high schools plan to wear grey — representing brain cancer awareness — to the various home football games tonight. Many wore pink, Madeline’s favorite color, to school on Wednesday. And many held prayer circles before school. The opposing football teams are planning to wear helmet stickers.

Madeline McTier will not soon be forgotten.

“In 17 years, she was able to do what a lot of people don’t do in a lifetime,” East Coweta Principal Coweta Evan Horton said in one of our articles. “She has been able to bring people together through the way she fought and through the person she was. What a lasting legacy.”

No parent should have to bury a child, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the McTier family. A memorial service will be held Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions be made to the Madeline Fund at any Bank of Georgia branch. They can also be sent by mail to 10 Baynard Park, Newnan, Ga., 30265.

That fund will in turn be dispersed to organizations and charities to honor the passions in Madeline’s life. We encourage you to give what you can to ensure that legacy.

Madeline McTier will not be forgotten.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:38)
