Lawyers, lawyers everywhere
So many of the professional groups in charge of America — making laws, declaring war, setting their own payscale and benefits, creating the mess we find the country and "we the people" in — are called lawyers.
In Congress, 169 members of the House and 57 members of the Senate have law degrees. Relative to other careered members of Congress, this group is by far in the majority. The current president and first lady were lawyers in their previous life.
I often wonder, do lawyers give Congress a bad name or does Congress give lawyers a bad name?
Before some very good friends who work in that career field get angry with me, I by no means put all lawyers in the same basket. Many honorable and good men help us by being lawyers. But so many chase ambulances, etc., constantly advertising their concern, promising money while they look out for those of us not smart enough to care for ourselves in the world they created, hurt the good ones.
If farmers, welders, policemen, and teachers — with no thoughts of grandeur and monetary gain, someone not seeking a lifetime of privilege, without the mis-focus of self importance — made up Congress, I honestly think America and its people would be better off.
The current makeup of Congress has most surely proven themselves unworthy of the positions they hold. I know of no other professional group having done a greater disservice to America. Although no degree of any kind is required to sit on the Supreme Court, all are lawyers. They allow lawsuits without merit and have created the most litigious country on Earth, where common sense and handshakes are a thing of the past.
At times I feel we were better off when fists and guns settled matters and got rid of outlaws and crooks who took advantage of good, honest people. No 15-20 expensive years on death row costing the victims much heartbreak and the taxpayers millions of dollars. Who profits? Not the victim, not the taxpayer.
Where are we going? When will we get there? A bad place sooner than we want is my belief. Please know that this is my opinion and hobby, not required reading for the non-believers.
