What is that sound?

That familiar jingle you hear about now, the one you can't quite put your finger on, is known as The Hallelujah Chorus.

Primarily sung at Easter celebrating the Resurrection, it also makes an appearance about now.

It is sung by parents with school children.

Yes, it's that time. Coweta County schools - and the students - start back on Tuesday.

Joining them will be 101 new teachers who were treated to a breakfast earlier this week. Please note that we said 'breakfast,' not the Last Supper.

We are fortunate to have such dedicated teachers and administrators who push our children to excel. Each year, our county beats the state average on those horrible standardized tests that do nothing more than freak the kids out for a week. We know our kids are better, why do we keep having to prove it?

As Coweta School System Superintendent Dr. Steve Barker said, 'The people of Coweta County are special. This is a special place. It is a community that rallies around education. You will have everyone working around a common goal.'

Indeed.

And let us remember a teacher's primary responsibility is to teach, not babysit. It is paramount that parents, as they sing the Hallelujah Chorus, also take an active role in their child's education. And also figuring out where all those buses are going to stop and at what time and what route should your kid be on and … We can help on that last point. On the front page of our website - times-herald.com - there is a link where parents can go, click on their child's school and then download the appropriate bus schedules. It's the least we can do.

The school year is once more upon us. It is, as Barker said, 'an exciting time.'
