Chipper – once a Brave, always a Brave

Chipper Jones in New York Yankees pinstripes? Say it ain’t so.

While Atlanta Braves fans remain in withdrawal about the retirement of third baseman Chipper Jones, who played every day of his career in a Braves uniform, there comes word the Yankees have been trying to lure Jones out of retirement to play in New York.

Jones quickly responded: “Enough with the rumors! While I am flattered about the speculation of being enticed out of retirement, I’m happy with life as a bad golfer!”

Thank you, Chipper.

Yesteryear, it was bad enough for Braves fans to see Phil Niekro in a Yankees uniform, Tom Glavine with the New York Mets, and John Smoltz with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.

We agree with Braves coach Terry Pendleton, who said, “I can imagine a lot of things in baseball, but Chipper playing for the Yankees isn’t one of them.”

Amen. Once a Brave, always a Brave. That’s part of the legacy of soon-to-be Hall of Famer Chipper Jones.
