A liberal viewpoint

In a Feb. 16 Letter to Editor titled “Bashing liberal voters,” the writer doesn’t seem to realize the irony of his statements.
By only interchanging the word conservative for liberal and one or two other minor revisions, every point he makes can be turned back on him. He even calls liberals unpleasant names in his letter, while complaining about liberals doing the same to conservatives.
He thinks because he happens to have a job and to be in a comfortable financial position right now, he is somehow more deserving than others and his ideas are always right. Does he realize the government pension and VA benefits he receives adds to the national debt that he blames on President Obama and the liberals? Does he realize that the government rules and other working conditions he is protected by and enjoy were made possible by labor unions and liberals?
Other workers, union and non-union, after 25 or 30 years on the job, have seen their pensions and health-care plans gutted or disappear entirely due to bankruptcies. I wonder if his attitude will change if the conservatives decide to take away his pension and VA benefits in the interest of balancing the federal budget. Will he still feel the same when the CEO of his airline decides to save money by either outsourcing his job or replacing him with a minimum wage worker?
Serving in the military does not make one a war hero. I served, my brother served, and during World War II, my dad served and was permanently disabled by a non-combat injury.

We aren’t heroes and unless the conservative writer was wounded in action, involved in direct combat or credited with some act of valor, he isn’t either. I did, however, have two uncles who served during WWII that were awarded Bronze Stars, and one also receiving the Purple Heart. They were war heroes.
