What's the answer?
As a society, should we be appalled at the senseless killings of our young innocent children we have recently witnessed? Absolutely.Should we protect our people from violence? Absolutely. Should we make more attempts to curb violence? Absolutely. Should we recognize and help those with mental illnesses? Absolutely. Should we be appalled at our society’s moral decay and should each person take personal responsibility? Absolutely.
A rational solution needs to be addressed – one that does not tread on our Second Amendment rights. Once our rights are infringed upon, it produces a slippery slope for future restrictions. When you look at the bigger picture, the decisions to be made are not to be taken lightly. Is it law-abiding citizens that are the problem? No. Will restrictions restrain the criminals from obtaining guns? No. They obtain theirs illegally.
Do violent crimes and killings take place daily due to just plain evil? Yes. Think about the daily incidents at our borders due to drug-trafficking. Where’s the outcry there?
Reports from the CDC on the ineffectiveness of gun control should make us consider the real issue of violent crimes and killings. Guns alone don’t kill – people do. A weapon to kill is not just a gun. It can be chosen from varied categories, even a person’s bare hands. We need to recognize we have a spiritual problem that only God can truly solve in each individual’s heart. The question is, “Are we willing to listen to Him?”
