Another gun control view

People are not educated on the facts in the gun control debate.
One Sound-Off comment stated that fully automatic weapons should be banned. They are. Usually these are older weapons in one’s collection with a required permit. The president states he does not want all guns off the street yet proposes a ban on any gun that the military uses. The military uses sidearms, aka pistols.
The weapon used in the Newtown murders was a semi-automatic rifle. There are also semi-automatic pistols. Therefore, to broadly classify semi-automatic weapons as “assault weapons” you are in fact taking away my rights to own a sidearm.
One writer who tried to justify his left-leaning position on the Constitution stated we were a “democracy.” Wrong. We are a Republic. The same people that make that incorrect statement also make the same mistake in interpreting the Second Amendment and what I can and can’t own.
Writers state that Republicans do not want to negotiate.
This Republican offers the following: If you, a Democrat, can agree to a contract with jail time for non-compliance, that absolutely no act of violence, robbery, theft, etc., will occur against myself and my household, then I’ll give up my gun.
