Become a patriot

As Nov. 6 — election day — passed I hoped the politics we have dealt with for months would end.
Unfortunately, this was/is not the case. Negativity is all you get when any form of government is mentioned. Even when people are on the same side the conversation will not last long without becoming negative. Racism, hate, class division and just plain fear are dividing forces in our country.
Within a week of the election falls Veterans Day. Veterans Day celebrates everything opposite of racism, hate, class division and fear. In war, rich fight next to poor, blacks fight next to whites, and fear though present never deters our soldiers from doing what is needed. In thinking of words to describe soldiers, I found many fighter, guardian, veteran, warrior and my favorite volunteer.
One word that I came across that caught my mind was patriot. The definition of patriot is one devoted to their country excluding differences in geography and philosophy. In simple words, one who supports his/her country.
Where have all of the patriot’s gone? We have a lot of people who tell you what they dislike or want to change. Where are those who say “I love my country”? After the election I heard people saying “I hate this country” or “this country sucks.”
Where is our pride? The United States of America is being broken down from within by those it is here to support. Become a patriot.
Our leaders are our leaders whether you voted for them or not. Your neighbor is your neighbor whether he voted the way you did or not. Become a patriot.

One more event this month is Thanksgiving.

In a season when we are supposed to give thanks, I implore you to think about what is right in our country. Think about how lucky we are to have it.

Reach deep, find a little patriotism, and try to show it to all those you meet.

Patriotism is contagious, and America really needs an epidemic.
