Special mealtime gesture

Thank you, Lord, for your blessings on me.
I was going to say I ate lunch by myself today, but to the contrary. Granted, I didn’t eat with family, but I did eat with a young couple with a 2-year-old and 10-month-old son. We spoke briefly, and it was fun to watch the excitement in the young sons’ faces as the “smiley face” and “onion train” blazed up on the Kobe Hibachi grill. The little ones were well-behaved, and I really did enjoy my lunch.
The waitress asked if we needed a to-go box, and I said no. She then said, “Y’all have a great afternoon.” I sat there for a minute or so with my credit card out waiting for the check, as I watched the young couple readying to go about their day. It appeared the dad may have been guest of honor for a lunch date with his young family. I was looking for the waitress to pay my check and asked the young couple, “Did she bring your check?” They replied yes, and that they’d paid mine, too.
During the lunch, the 2-year-old asked his mom, “Where did Daddy go?” It is clear to me now, the dad had gotten up during the meal and paid our checks. This special act was very unexpected but greatly appreciated. It made my day. As I told the next person who asked how I was, I used one of my son-in-law Kyle’s special sayings, “I am better than I deserve, I’m sure.”
This couple could be your neighbor. If you know a couple with two small sons, tell them thank you again. I just heard on television it is good especially today to be thankful and think about everything you have good in your life. I am very blessed to have a wonderful family and special friends — even the ones I don’t really know.
