Another view on social programs

This is in response to a opinion piece titled “Social programs not socialism.”
The writer may want to look up the terms in the dictionary before he tells others to do so. The definition of socialism is any various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. Social programs are welfare subsidies designed to aid the needs of the U.S. population. Both of these definitions came out of the dictionary.
The post office and NASA are government owned. And both operate in the red, costing taxpayers billions to operate. I do not advocate closing down either one, but they could be run better by the private sector.
Has the government really run anything efficiently? Amtrak is another government -run business that is in the red. The government still owns part of GM. They don’t seem to be doing very well, and taxpayers have lost money on that venture.
Social programs are things like welfare, food stamps and social security.
