Volunteers Make A Difference
No community can thrive and prosper without volunteers. Our community is blessed to have thousands of volunteers who give their time, energy and money to make this a better place to live. In both the public sector and the private sector we have tireless volunteers whose contributions are a vital part to giving us the quality of life we enjoy. While volunteers are busy each and every day, there’s one day each fall when the spotlight throughout our nation shines on volunteers. That day -- USA Weekend magazine’s Make a Difference Day -- is the fourth Saturday in October. This year that’s Oct. 27.
The magazine bills Make a Difference Day as “one day that changes the world.” It’s a day when more than 3 million volunteers will help 20 million others, says USA Weekend, which sponsors and promotes the day in partnership with Points for Lights.
Volunteers around the country are encouraged to pick a community project or a project to help an individual or family and work on that project on Make a Difference Day. Volunteers can register their project at the USA Weekend website and be eligible for recognition and cash awards.
In years past, hundreds of Newnan and Coweta County volunteers have participated in Make a Difference Day. They have done community cleanup projects. They have collected books. They have painted houses. They have done a smorgasbord of projects to help people around them.
Get involved in this year’s special day of volunteering. You can help Make a Difference right here in our community.
