Voters should consider early voting in advance of the Nov. 6 election

Voters in Coweta County and across the nation had a chance to see President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, face off in the first presidential debate Wednesday night. The debates signal that we are in the final stretch of the long presidential campaign, with the Nov. 6 election just a month away.
As we reach the home stretch of this election year, some key dates are on the horizon for those who want to vote. The first key date comes Tuesday. That’s the deadline for voter registration for this year’s General Election. If you have not registered to vote in Coweta, you need to do so by Tuesday.
Every four years when we go to the polls to select a president, we have very high voter turnouts — sometimes in the 70 percent range. The high turnout often means longer lines and waits at the polling place on election day. When there is a high turnout expected, more voters like to take advantage of early voting.
Early in-person voting will take place in Coweta County from Oct. 15 until Nov. 2.
The only place that Cowetans can cast their ballots early is at the Coweta Voter Registration Office in the County Administration Building, intersection of Perry and Broad streets in downtown Newnan.

Here is the early voting schedule in Coweta from Oct. 15-Nov. 2:

— Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day.

— Saturday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

— Saturday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Of course there will be no Sunday early voting.

We expect a high voter turnout for this election. Because of the turnout be prepared for the possibility of long lines at polling places on election day Nov. 6. Because of those lines, you may want to consider voting early on one of the days listed above.
